Review
of Gros Islet Carnival Queen Show
The
2010 Gros Islet Carnival Queen Show was held
on Friday July 30th at the Gros Islet Primary
School. Five beauties: Ave Marie Fedee, Chrissy
Daniel, Kaila Gregg, Jenita Joseph and LuAnn
Gustave competed for the title of Gros Islet
Carnival Queen 2010. Many people from the
town of Gros Islet and its environs were on
hand to witness who would become Gros Islet’s
2010 Queen.
The introductory number was a dance to Shakira’s
popular football world cup anthem ‘Waka
Waka’. All the contestants dazzled with
fluid movements and the flowery language of
their introductions to the judges and the
crowd.
The first segment for which the contestants
were judged was the Talent Segment. All of
the five ladies proved to be very talented.
However, Chrissy Daniel emerged as a clear
favorite with her talent on domestic violence/spousal
abuse. The talent referenced pop culture icons
Riri and Chris - (Rihanna and Chris Brown).
Next it was a flurry of sparkle, color, sequins
and of course movement in the costume segment.
Contestants were judged on their presentation
of the various costumes borrowed from carnival
bands.
In the Evening Wear segment the judges had
the task of assessing the fit and suitability
of the evening gowns and the poise and elegance
with which the contestants portrayed those
gowns. During this segment the crowd seemed
to have identified its two clear front runners
for the title of queen.
The interview segment would be the defining
moment. For Chrissy Daniel the nerves set
in and she struggled with her answer. Jenita
Joseph remained consistent. Kaila Gregg was
relaxed and confident - sealing the deal for
best interview.

In the end
the prizes were announced:
Best Talent
was awarded to Chrissy Daniel with a talent
which received an overwhelming response from
the crowd and judges
Best Performance in Costume was awarded to
Chrissy Daniel who moved like a dream in a
blue and silver costume from Red Unlimited
Best Evening Wear went to Ave Maria Fedee
in a gorgeous, fairy tale, purple gown.
Best Interview was awarded to Kaila Gregg
for near flawless answer.
And then it
was the moment of truth. The runners up and
the queen were announced:
2nd Runner
Up - Ave Maria Fedee
1st Runner Up – Chrissy Daniel
Jenita Joseph was crowned Gros Islet Carnival
Queen 2010
The new Gros
Islet Carnival Queen Show committee says their
sponsors played an integral role in the success
of the 2010 Gros Islet Carnival Queen Show.
The commitee says it was important to raise
the standard from what had obtained last year.
Chairperson, Paula St. Luce says Gros Islet
is looking forward to an even bigger and better
pageant next year.
