37 years of CCSS

The Castries Comprehensive Secondary School celebrated its 37th, anniversary with a series of activities which spanned from Friday 25, March 2011 to Friday April 8, 2011. The activities included Wacky Socks Day, Reunion Night, Award Ceremony, Staff Lunch, C.C.S.S. Exhibition, Wacky Hairstyles Day and two Theatre Arts productions for an end of term concert.
C.C.S.S. was a gift donated to ST. Lucia by the Canadian government in 1974. The institution currently located on the busy four lane highway linking the city of Castries to the town of Gros Islet graduated its first set of students in 1976. To date, C.C.S.S. is the leading Technical and Vocational institution on the island offering thirty five (35) subjects. The technical and vocational subjects offered at CCSS include, Mechanical Engineering, Technical Drawing, Building Technology, Electrical Technology, Auto-Mechanics, Visual Arts, Theatre Arts, Electrical Technology, Food and Nutrition, Clothing and Textiles and Design and Technology. CCSS also offered the regular academic subjects from departments such as Science, Business, Mathematics, Modern Languages etc.
The two most popular activities for the 37th anniversary included the reunion night and end of term concert. The Theatre Arts Department headed by past student Christine Samuels, founder of Christy Lights Dancers, and outstanding athlete from Finch House, staged a breathtaking and amazing concert with performances from students of Form three, four and five.

The play entitled, “Flight Though Fantasy” was directed by Drenia Frederick who is also a past student of C.C.S.S. (class of 91) and a member of the Theatre Arts Department.
The highlight of the anniversary celebrations was the Reunion Night staged at the CCSS auditorium on Wednesday March 30, 2011. Past students were to dress in their CCSS outfits which made the event an evening to remember. On parade were past carnival queens, calypsonian the various graduating year groups and families which spanned two and three generations. In special attendance were former principal Jeremy Joseph and Minister of Sport Lenard Montoute (Class 81), outstanding athlete from Finch House.
The administration and students of Castries Comprehensive Secondary School wish to thank all past students, friends and families over the years for their grateful support.
