Larry Biscette- Rated NUMBER 1 In the WORLD!
Rae Anthony

You’ve heard the name Joyann Biscette right? Well of course you have! She has graced the front pages of local newspapers and local magazines, has participated in pageantry; most recently Miss Universe, in Brazil. However, this article isn’t about Joyann, it’s about her brother, Larry Biscette.

19 year old Larry attended the Saint Mary’s College and described his years there as “some of the most enjoyable years of my life.” Larry was quite the man at his former school. He was the President of Peer Counseling, President of the Environmental Club, Vice President of Young Leaders and President of the Debating and Public Speaking Society. He has also been actively involved in a number of other organizations. He got the Business award at S.M.C. and a number of other awards including an award for National Representation, Award for Public speaking and an Award for Peer Counseling. He was also Saint Lucia’s Junior Tourism Minister for 2 years.

After graduating from S.M.C. and being accepted into Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, he continued doing what he loves best. After years of hard work and fun, he graduated recently and was honoured at his graduation for three things: gaining the highest mark in Sociology, gaining the highest mark in Saint Lucia in Travel and Tourism and gaining the highest mark in the world in Travel and Tourism.

When asked if he was surprised when he received the award, Larry said “I did expect to do well in Travel and Tourism, but did not imagine gaining a world award. Myself, like most other S.A.L.C.C students, were not even aware that this award existed because Saint Lucia had never received a Top in the World award in any subject before. This being the 25th anniversary of S.A.L.C.C, I feel very honoured to have received such a prize. This signifies that we are capable of accomplishing great things, and that we have a future to look forward too. I would hope that my award would inspire other young persons like myself to really be focused, and bring even greater recognitions and accomplishments to Saint Lucia.”

Because of his immense love for tourism, Larry always knew that one day he would love to be deeply involved in the Tourism Sector. “My passion is tourism. I am tourism.” Larry will be traveling to the U.S. next year to study Marketing and Tourism Development. In the next 10-13 years he states, because he has such a great love for tourism, and Saint Lucia itself, he sees himself coming back to the Island and giving a service; he wants the Tourism Industry to grow. He would love to be actively involved in politics, because his belief is that “for an individual to make change, you must be the one on top, restructuring the industry.” He says he would like to get involved in politics and possibly become Saint Lucia’s Tourism Minister.

He describes Saint Lucia Tourist Board as “The marketing tool for Saint Lucia.” “They are the ones responsible for the outer world getting to know about Saint Lucia.”

If he had to change certain things, it would include changing poverty, and persons’ ability to understand the importance of an education. “Education is very important.” He emphasized.

His message to young individuals out there: “Like our guest speaker at graduation mentioned, “Keep going, because stopping is NOT an option!”
