Rules Micoud Sports World

The annual
school sports meets is one of the ways that
students relieve the pressure and daily struggles
of classes. It is also a great time and way
to promote great house rivalry. That is usually
the only time you will find best friends not
speaking for an entire day! At Micoud Secondary
School’s sports last week Thursday we
saw some keen competition and a great showing
of house pride as four houses did battle in
the field events.
With Inter Secondary School sports on the
horizon I was anxious to see which house will
be well represented in the games. Representatives
from the houses Compton (Red), Clarke (Blue),
King (Yellow) and Malcolm X (Green) all brought
their best of the track but in the end it
was the strongest that came out on top. We
will get to that a little later so don’t
worry about it. Let’s first start with
the medal places of the each division. On
a day that wasn’t interrupted by rain
the division three males from King’s
House seemed determined to snatch away all
the medals in the 100m.
Kevin Flavien and Dius Clauzelma took home
the gold and silver respectively for King
as Kerious James from Compton finished third
for bronze. The females however had a different
idea as Compton house walked away with the
most medals in that division. Gold went to
Roxanne Mathurin from Malcom X and Isabel
Harris and Kera Donelly won silver and bronze
respectively for Compton. In Division Two,
Ryan Lewis from Compton won the gold medal
and he was followed by Brad Fanus and Pernelle
Leonce from King’s House. Reno Francis
(King) and Sabiana Antoine (Compton) wrapped
up the winners circle for the Division One
male and females 100m.
Moving on to the Division Two I couldn’t
help but notice that one young lady’s
name was on every first place slot that was
available. Clearly all who competed against
her were no match as St. Lucia’s representative
at the Junior Carifta Games in 2009Verlyn
Taylor ran out of the George Odlum Stadium
a winner of all her individual races which
included the 100m, 200m, and 400m. She fended
off runners such as Hanna Felicien, Marlissa
Augustin, Tina Thomas, Tamara Edward who all
hailed from Compton’s House.
Taking a look at the Division three races
the tussle between Dius Clauzelma and Kevin
Flavien from King’s house was fun to
watch and sometimes it was challenge to figure
out who would come out with the gold or silver.
In the end they shared the same number of
gold medals (one) but Dius was able to leave
the meet with three silver medals.

The 800m races
saw Marvan Joseph (MX) and Desly Francis (Clarke)
become winners in Division Three, Brent Jn
Baptiste (King) and Tina Thomas (Com) winning
Division Two and Kurty Isidore (Clarke) and
Darnel Serieux(Clarke) winning in Division
One. In the 1500m Sheldon Descartes and Daniel
St. Clair (King) came out with gold and silver
respectively while Dudley St. Marthe (Compton)
settled for bronze. For the ladies, it was
Clarke’s Darnel Serieux winning the
gold followed by Omiah Charlery(King) and
Tarchelle Henry(Compton) placing third.
The relay events really got the crowd worked
up as chants of go, go, go, could be heard
around the sporting facility. When it was
all said and done, 4x100m male division three
was won by King followed by Compton then Malcom
X, for the ladies Malcom X won the gold followed
by Clarke and Compton. Division Two male winner
was topped by Compton, followed by Clarke
and King. The ladies also saw Compton winning
that division and they were followed by King
and Clarke. Division One male and female were
won by Malcom X.
The final event the 4x400m males Division
Three was won by King followed by Clarke and
Malcolm X. Clarke won the females races and
was followed by Compton and King. Division
two male winners were King, followed by Compton
and Clarke. The females were topped by Compton
house, second was Clarke and third place King
House. Division One male and female were topped
by Malcolm X house.
Celebrations reached an ultimate high when
it was announced that Compton House with 987
points were the Champions for 2011. King who
had to settle for second place amassed a total
of 945 points, Clarke places third with 832
points and Malcolm X was fourth with 789 points.
