There’s
a saying, “you miss it and blame yourself”
and I must say that those who were absent
at H20 Wet Fete this year missed it! Wet fete
was “The bomb!” “Mad!!!”
“Off the chain!” “Crazy!”
“Amazing!” according to many status
updates on Facebook and I, definitely agree!
Wet Fete was more than a success and even
those who complained about minor situations
at the event said that was “small Potatoes”
because the event deserved rave reviews!
Despite
the homicide which took place, which led many
individuals to believe that Saint Lucians
seem incapable of having fun without including
malicious acts; the event was the trending
topic days after. From water slides, bikinis
and entertainment beyond an individual’s
imagination, Wet Fete seemed almost indescribable,
since there is so much to converse about!
The
Soca artistes gave their absolute best and
the crowd responded very well. There were
performances from various artistes including:
Mac 11, Scady Dot P, D.J. H.P., MaryAnne,
Ricky T, Sir Lancealot, Private 6, Ambi and
Mongsta, Iwer George from Trinidad, and a
number of other artistes. Artistes who really
stood out with their performances included:
D.J. H.P. who came out with an entertaining
“Scooby-Doo” costume imitating
the cartoon character “Scooby-Doo”
and sent the crowd crazy when he performed
his hit singles “Dance Doggy”
“Par Maley” and others. Scady
had the crowd swaying along to his groovy
song “Put me out” and the crowd
went beyond wild when he performed one of
his 2011 hits “Make it bubble”
alongside a guest artiste Toya. Mac 11 had
the crowd asking for more with his intentionally
hilarious performance; he even performed pieces
from Keisha White’s “Weakness
In Me” and a popular Country and Western
single “The Echo Of Your Name”
which sent the crowd absolutely wild and enjoying
every minute of his entertaining performance.

Everyone
meaning boys and girls, men and women, young
and old, everyone went almost insane when
Mongsta came on stage to perform his single
“Glo Koko” which received more
than five stars based on the public’s
response. The crowd went even crazier when
he and his entourage started distributing
bottled Coconut water and the Coconut itself
into the crowd. Another crowd pleasing performance
was from both Ambi and Mongsta with the song
“Ma Maley”.
The
40 foot water slide everyone anticipated was
exactly what it was described to be: FUN!
FUN! FUN! It boasted of its capabilities and
it proved to be exhilarating as individuals
went on it over and over again and were squealing
in delight. Everyone seemed to be enjoying
the foam and water, although several individuals
complained of the lack of foam and water.
Despite the complaints the show was alive
and bursting with excitement and the water
was splashing the crowd which further delighted
them.
The
various sponsors were awarded with trophies
as this was a way for the organizers of the
show to express their gratitude for the support
and contributions.
Although
the crowd expected a lot more from Iwer George
who came all the way from Trinidad, they seemed
to have a blast! Many fans and people who
were at the show described his performance
as “disappointing” and the crowd
was not responding as well as they were responding
to the local acts. Despite the downsides,
when an individual weighed the pros and cons
of the event, the pros won by a landslide
hands down! All in all Wet Fete 2011 was a
wonderful success!
