Joyanne Biscette: Your new Miss Universe representative!
Rae Anthony

Although quite a bit of time has passed, since the Miss Universe Pageant, we still managed to get hold of two of the Miss Universe participants, judges and also the manager of Miss Universe Saint Lucia.

Joyanne Biscette, winner of Miss Universe Saint Lucia 2011, and Patrish Lionel first runner up, were both ecstatic to share their experiences with us so that we could be more knowledgeable and see just what they have to go through to get ready for such big events, and that it is not only talent and smiles, but hard work too. The event was held at Sandals Grande on the 11th of June 2011 and of course only one girl could be crowned winner. The 7 girls vying for the crown were: Natasha John, Cherrisa Albertine, Joyanne Biscette, Katrina Scheper, Patrice Lionel, Jamilla Lansiquot, Glenda Abbott and Lynnell Esnard. Joyanne Biscette emerged winner of them all, and was crowned queen.

Although Patrish Lionel did not take home the crown, she was the reigning Miss Anse La Raye for three years.

Joyanne is employed at Harry Edwards Jewelers as a Sales Associate. She is currently working on her Bachelor’s Degree part time at the University of the West Indies and she is also a graduate of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College. The three top contestants at the show were as follows: Joyanne Biscette, Patrish Lionel and Katrina Scheper. Joyanne was the recipient for the “Best Interview” award; Patrish got “Best Evening Wear” whilst Katrina received “Best Swim Wear”.

Patrish also attended the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College and also pursued English and Spanish. She says that she also tends to make a habit out of writing poetry; since it is something she enjoys doing.

The girls described their experience as “fun!” They both stated that working together was like family, getting along with the other girls was not a problem and that they have learnt a lot through this pageantry. Patrish stated that compared to her first pageant and now, she has come such a long way. She does not intend to stop here, as she refuses to remain stagnant. She says she will be auditioning for pageantry next year and hopefully, she will be successfully.

Joyanne had a word of advice to share with the aspiring individuals out there, especially the youth. “It’s important to believe in yourself, in order for others to believe in you, you must believe in yourself and never settle for less. Always remember that everyone can’t do everything but everyone can do something. Don’t be a leader, be a follower.” The Queen is already making preparations for the upcoming show and is giving her all. It appears to be something that comes naturally to her. She is 25 years of age and she is vivacious, committed, intelligent, intellectual and such a warm and outgoing person proving that the judges did not go wrong when they made their decision.

Joan Johnson, the manager of Miss Universe Saint Lucia, mentioned that the show was nothing but successful and that the show ran quite smoothly indeed!

Vincent McDoom fashion icon, television personality (in France), was a judge at the show and along with an international model who was present for the interview; both shared their views based on the show. Mr. McDoom eagerly spoke about his experience. “I’ve judged many shows before and I’ve also judged the Miss World show in Saint Lucia so I had the experience before hand. I believe that all of the girls were quite talented, but at the end of the day only one can win. It was a great show, wonderful experience for the girls and I believe that Joyanne definitely has what it takes to represent Saint Lucia and make the people proud.”

The judge is currently working on his own make up and perfume line and is also a huge celebrity in France.

The other judge who was present (Vavacar)declared that all in all the show was fantastic and Joyanne was absolutely outstanding.

The Miss Universe Pageant Show will be held on September 12th in Sao Paulo Brazil.
