After
eight contestants competed against each other
at the 2011 Carnival Queen show, only one
could be crowned queen. The event was held
at the Cultural Center on the 9th of July
2011. Roxanne Didier, Miss Digicel was the
participant who fitted the judges’ criteria
and was declared the 2011 Carnival Queen.
The results were as follows:3rd runner up:
Nicole St Croix (Miss Castries Community),
2nd runner up Tara Edward (Miss Cultural Community),
1st runner up Consuelo Dupal (Miss Super J
IGA) and of course the new Carnival Queen
Roxanne Didier. The eight participants were:
Trudy Mathurin, Tara Edward, Consuelo Dupal,
Nicole St Croix, Roxanne Didier, Sherry Etienne,
Jenita Olivia Joseph and Bernadine St Rose.
Individuals
who were in attendance said that selecting
a winner must have been a tough decision for
the judges, as most of the girls were very
talented and put on prize winning acts and
displays. However, (as is the norm) there
were a number of people at the show who were
displeased with the judges’ final decision,
and they were quite frank about it. Even before19
year old Roxanne Didier was pronounced winner,
she had collected a number of awards including:
the Best in Swimsuit Award, Most Outstanding
Talent Award, Best in Eveningwear Award, Best
Interview Award and also the Award for participation.
A number of members from the audience started
leaving even before Miss Didier was crowned
Queen as it was obvious she would be winner
because she was already sweeping away all
the awards. However despite the crowd’s
disapproval, Digicel and their crew were ecstatic
and their screams could be heard as they were
jumping up and down hugging each other.
The
first runner up Consuelo Dupal only received
an award of participation; which all the contestants
received. It was rumored that her drama piece
was copied from that of one of the contestants
in St. Kitts who performed that same thing
at a show in her country. Trudy Mathurin received
the award for Miss Photogenic, Sherry Etienne
got the award for Miss Congeniality and Nicole
St Croix received the award for Best Costume.

All of the
contestants who participated had a lot to
offer and were quite impressive. The designs
which were locally created were quite stunning
and nothing short of impressive. Tara Edward’s
drama piece stood out and she received a standing
ovation. Consuelo Dupal was also one who had
a very impressive costume although she did
not receive an award.
The reigning
Carnival Queen has a very impressive profile
although she is only 19 years old. She attended
the Ave Maria Girls School then went on to
Saint Joseph’s Convent (S.J.C.) and
also pursued her studies at The Sir Arthur
Lewis Community College (S.A.L.C.C.) and the
University of the West Indies (U.W.I.). Roxanne
has been a dancer ever since the tender age
of four. She has also gained experience at
the Saint Lucia School of Ballet and Avad
Dance Ministry. She has performed in drama
competitions and has also coached drama students.
She intends to one day become a professional
dancer.
Individuals like Minelle and T.C. Brown performed
at the event. T.C. Brown also handed each
contestant a bouquet of roses whist he was
performing on stage.
