WHERE IS SHE?

It’s not that she retired because surely you heard her voice on a number of tracks this Carnival season. It’s just that Melissa “Q-Pid” Moses – the soca goddess – has been taking care of some other business, the mommy business to be exact and could not perform or take part in any competitions this year.

But while she was concerned with the safe birth of her daughter Aria – she was also determined to leave her fans with music for Carnival. And that is why months into her pregnancy she and her songwriting partner and producer Courtney “Curty” Louis worked on several tracks – some of which you got to hear from Good as Gold with Jamaican dancehall superstar Bad Gyal Ce’Cile to Push It Back, the groovy love song to carnival Me Bacchanal and of course the power song Dangerous (I iz a Lucian) which features Scady Dot P.

“I knew it would not be possible for me to physically be with my fans this year,” says
Q-Pid. “But I wanted to leave them with music so they would at least be able to get on mad while they waited for me to come back next year.”
One of the leading female artistes in Saint Lucia – Q-Pid was particularly missed at events like Wet Fete and Cooler Fete as well as Piton Party in the Yard – stages she has consistently performed on every year.
Unfortunately, she will also miss Mas on the Square, Colour Me Red and Sexy in Black – events she mashed up last year with her big hits I Do, Leave Me Alone, Ti Ri Ri, Do you Like It and Parle Parle.

“I tried to see if I would be able to perform while pregnant or if I would have Aria in time to participate in some parts of Carnival this year,” says the new mommy. Laughingly she continues “but Aria, like her mommy had her own plan and didn’t arrive in time to allow for anything but her to be centre stage this Carnival.”

Q-Pid is far from retired however and fans can expect to see her performing before the end of this year. She also has a lot more songs in the pipeline that have not been released.

And while she was waiting for her daughter to make her entrance into the world, she enjoyed the music of Saint Lucia carnival and is particularly proud of the artistes especially her friends from the Dutch Productions camp who made a firm mark this year.
“I did background vocals and was in the studio when a lot of these songs were worked on,” she says. “From Glo Ko Ko to Black Cinderella and Make it Bubble, I am so proud and happy for Mongstar, Marie Anne and Scady and especially Curty who I know worked really hard this year.”

Heading into the final week of Carnival where traditionally Q-Pid would be tightening up her performance and making sure everything was in place for the Groovy and Power soca finals, she wants to wish all the artistes well.
“While there can only be one winner, I always believe that if you do the best you can on the given night, you can be satisfied with that even though that winner is not you.”
Melissa “Q-Pid” Moses is a mommy, artiste and Carnival reveller who wants to wish all revelers a safe and happy Carnival especially those in her band Just 4 Fun.

She ends with this message for her fans, “Veil, Andy and the Just 4 Fun crew, I will miss you and all the madness this year but I will be back for an even bigger and better Carnival next year. So look out for that and to all my fans and lovers of Carnival I hope you enjoy your mas.”
