The
biggest Soca tent in St. Lucia made some major
noise this year’s event though they
only had one show. The New Generation Soca
Stage Tent had the season’s first and
only Soca show at the National Cultural Centre
on June 17th 2011.
The
tent is currently home to the biggest names
in the Soca industry boasting a line up with
artistes such as Toya, Scady, Private Six,
Sedale, Mubarack, Nicole David, Mysterio,
Teddyson John, Ilah Man, Platinum George,
Sirlancealot, Mr. Killa (Grenada) and Superman
H.D just to name a few.
The
show kicked off with a performance by Mubarack
who had a “Nice Time” on stage
and he was followed by Exodus and then our
pick for Most Improved Artiste, Mysterio.
If you don’t know who he is he is the
one who had ladies ditching their carnival
men for him so he could make them bend down
and “jook-a-sah!”
By
the time Mysterio was done with his performance
we had to get ready for Sedale’s performance
which featured hits such as “Gyal Take
Stab” and “Drop A Water.”
I guess by now we should note that Oaktreez
was the stage manager and he ensured the show
was kept tight and without a glitch. New to
the Soca stage, on his own that is, was Scady
who performed the hit single of the Cinderella
Riddim, “Make It Bubble” together
with Toya. Mongster’s “Glo Ko
Ko” was next inline and it received
numerous encores from the crowd that had now
grown significantly. Mantius had everyone
flocking together and he was followed by Private
Six who had everyone “Wasted”
just before the intermission.

The
second half featured performances from Mac
11 who had released a Wet Fete anthem earlier
that week, Crocodile with his “Remix
Already Fix” and Zionomi who enjoyed
a season filled with versatility. The “Mad
Man,” Platinum George followed through
but made way just in time for Ilah Man to
release his frustration!
The
show closed with Superman H.D. and Mr. Killa
mashing up and building back fence, Sirlancealot
creating a Soca Riot with “Powder and
Water,” T.J. getting on “Out and
Bad” and D.J. HP making everyone dance
doggy.
I
wonder if we should make mention of the crowd
who had also played an important role in setting
the stage during the performance of “De
Fence.” Uhh, nah, maybe next time.
