As
the year started the buzz was about who would
headline this year’s “Outrageous:
Sexy In Black.” The annual show presented
by The Wave 94.5 FM, is one event that carnival
lovers and Soca enthusiasts mark down in the
PDAs, Blackberry calenders, and tablets as
one not to miss.
After
learning that Kes would be the show stopper
for the event, many guys groaned while the
ladies rushed to the nearest boutique or internet
café, to place their order for sexy
garments for the night. Excitement went on
overload when Denise “Saucy Wow”
Belfon and Iwer George’s names were
also confirmed for the event.
According
to one, “Eh! Eh! the sexy ras coming,
I In Dat!” I for one was eager to see
Kes and his entire band perform since I had
never seen them before and many St. Lucians
shared that same eagerness. That wasn’t
my only problem though; I only knew one song
from the singer! “How could I enjoy
a performance when I only knew one song?”
I thought.
Well,
thanks to The Wave, that problem was solved
with music from Kes both old and new, pumping
through my speakers. That was enough to ensure
that my ticket was purchased and black attire
ironed long before Carnival Friday.
Those
who had been to a show which featured Denise
knew that this lady was a “whining”
queen and “whining” was in full
effect that night. If you ever wondered how
a tricycle moves without wheels all you needed
to do was watch Saucy. Her hits included “Licks”,
“Hold On”, “Bicycle Whine”
and “Dance and Dingolay” among
others.

Iwer
George seemed to release more energy, on the
night, than we had expected after making another
appearance on the island. The man responsible
for making fans keep their “hand and
hand and hand” up energized the crowd
with his old and new hits. “When ever
Iwer is in town expect flags to be waving,”
he said, and boy did they ever.
Kes
is not only the “Wotless” man,
but according to the biggest Soca artiste
in the world today Machel Montano, Kes is
the future of carnival. “Mr. Wotless,”
proved those words to be true by putting on
a stellar performance in the early hours of
Carnival Saturday morning. With hits such
as “Where Yuh From”, “Fete
Hard”, “Till Morning”, “Come
a Little Closer” and of course “Wotless”
among many more, Kes electrified the crowd
not only with his lyrical skill but also his
stage performance.
Ladies
were seen leaving the back and forcing their
way to the front, just to get a better glimpse
of the man deemed “the sexy ras”.
Screams of joy were heard, when he reached
out to touch a few and at least two fans made
their way on stage, at one point.
The
Wave’s “Outrageous: Sexy in Black”
started promptly with the Deejays warming
up the crowd who had made their way through
the breath taking décor at the entrance.
Never had I been to a show at the Gaiety grounds
and felt like I was in another country; kudos
to the designers!
The
show also featured the biggest and best names
from St. Lucia including Scady dot P, Mongster,
Ambi, Teddyson John, Solange, and Mr. Brown.
