Arguably the most fun term for students is the second term. It’s when you have no end of term exams and most importantly your house will get bragging rights at the end of that term. Of course to win such honours that house must, well, win. Last week Wednesday was turn of the boys. St. Mary’s College Inter –House Sports Meet for the passed one hundred and ten years have separated the best of the best with exciting field events.

The day got on the way with a march pass by the representatives of each house, Rodney, Abercrombie, Tapon, and Presentation. Then after the boys broke into their respective dens as they awaited their houses to be called for each race. In the relays the dominant house by far was Rodney with strong contributions from the Power house twins
Shaquille and Janille Greenidge and Akanaton Pierre taking in gold for their house.

The three put on such a showing that it prompted the question if the three had ever raced for the national team. Akanaton seemed determined to leave the meet with all the gold he could and a few records as well.

With Inter – Secondary School sports a few weeks away and surely he had that on his mind, Akanaton Pierre cemented his name in the S.M.C. record books after eclipsing two records in Division Three. The Juniors 800 meter record which was set by Alton Crafton with a time of 2.20.98 was broken by Akanaton’ 2.08.80 and in the Juniors 400 meters, Lenyn Leonce’s record of 54.50 become history when Akanaton ran a time of 54.30.

The excitement reached an ultimate high when it was time for the houses to show off their true strength. The House Tug –O-War so many pull but after it was all said and done the might of Presentation House would see the boys through to first place.

The day was filled with notable performances from students namely Kamathe Daniel (Abercrombie) Omodele Phillips (Abercrombie), Kevel Polius (captain of Rodney), Joshua Etienne (Tapon), Hilary Charles (Tug-o-War power house) and Jamille Shousson.

After it was all said and done and the points were tallied, the winner was Rodney (red) with 602 points, in second place was the blues, Abercombie with a total 504 points, third place Tapon (yellow) with 485 points and in fourth place Presentation house (purple) with a total of 435.
