Solange Does It Again!

By now, quite a few people know of the name “Solange Lenihan”; from the likes of pageantry, modeling, swimming and Karate. For those who don’t know about the gifted teen, Solange Lenihan is one of Saint Lucia’s most accomplished youths. Miss Lenihan
Was interviewed by Yo! And here’s what she had to say!

Yo! : Tell us a little about your recent accomplishments. Where did you travel to? What have you learnt? What was the experience like?

Solange: I have travelled around the Caribbean, and twice to the USA. I learnt how to control my nerves around competition. Over the years I have met many big names in martial arts, world record holders included.

Yo! : At what age did you start Karate? How has it helped you?

Solange: I started karate at 11. I believe it has made me a stronger person, not just physically but emotionally as well. Karate has taught me patience and persistence.

Yo! : What would you say is the best thing about Karate?

Solange: There are many great things about karate but for me the best thing is that after a while it becomes a way of life. It’s a paradox really, because you end up using it unintentionally. Karate doesn't just train the body, but also the mind. It helps us observe, analyze and think.

Yo! : Apart from the “Kung Fu,” what else do you like doing? Have you done ballet? You look like that kind of girl! Tell us more!

Solange: I started ballet many years ago. My mom was actually our teacher, but ballet requires a certain grace that I lack.

Yo! : What are your short term goals?

Solange: My short term goals are just to keep training and to remain in high spirits. I will be starting university soon but I will continue to train.

Yo! : What are your long term goals?

Solange: My long term goals are to of course finish school. Next July I will go back to the US Open World Championships, and hopefully bring home the gold.

Yo! : Do you intend to teach others what you’ve learnt a few years down the line?

Solange: I believe all knowledge should be shared, so yes I will share what I have learnt.

Yo! : What message would you like to leave with the youth out there?

Solange: Find something positive that you have a passion for and stick with it. Continue to do what you love as long as it makes you happy.
