Introducing:
Dexter Car: Also known as DJ Babaroots
Rae Anthony

24
year old Dexter Carr is originally from Jamaica
and has only been in Saint Lucia for a brief
period of time now, but he intends to make
a name for himself in the music industry.
He describes himself as “down to earth,
easy going and cool.” DJ Babaroots as
some of you may know him shared with us details
about himself and also discussed his goals.
Ever
since he was a child, Dexter knew that music
was his passion. He said he would “walk
around singing whole day” and he also
enjoyed singing in church. Dexter decided
to not only make music his passion, but also
his job; he became a deejay. In his home country
Jamaica, he has played in a number of clubs,
and has also played in quite a few down here
including club Caesars and clubs located in
the south of the Island. Although he’s
learnt quite a lot on his own, the go-getter,
decided to further himself by entering this
year’s Green Synergy competition. The
competition which was held earlier this year,
is hosted annually, and gives Deejays Island
wide an opportunity to showcase their skills.
Although he did not make it very far in the
competition, Dexter is not allowing this disappointment
to affect him. However, he says he has gained
exposure which he is thankful for, and he
has gained experience. He has also worked
at the popular radio station Hot FM.

If
given the opportunity to travel so that he
can continue to pursue his dreams, the aspiring
deejay says that he will travel to Canada,
as he can relate to the entertainment industry
there
When
asked who inspires him the most in the music
industry, the deejay said internationally
known deejay Tony Matterhorn. Why? He says
it’s because of the deejay’s ability
to relate to various kinds of people and the
fact that he knows how to “keep the
vibes flowing.”
Dexter
mentioned that the advantages of being a deejay
include meeting new people, travelling/getting
exposure. He says one of the disadvantages
however can also include getting an unresponsive
crowd. Thankfully, he has never been in that
position.
In
the future he intends to still keep on doing
his thing, take it to another level and also
record a few tracks.
