CCSS
RAMAS for 2k11
By Michael Peterkin

Just
when it seemed as if outdoor sports was impossible
with the passing of tropical storms Lee, Maria,
Nate and Ophelia, the CCSS Sports Program
hosted a successful launch of its 2011 sports
calendar with the annual CCSS Ramas on Friday
September 23, 2011.
The annual event which has been contested
by the four houses Heron, Oriole, Finch and
Amazona since 1982 has been the signature
event for CCSS sports. These three sporting
disciplines (football, basketball and netball)
are used to finalize selection to continue
training for the annual inter-school’s
competitions.
CCSS Ramas commenced at approximately 9:30
a.m. with high energy levels from the participants
of the four houses. The Police Band was present
to lead off the ceremony which culminated
with a brief presentation in the CCSS auditorium.
The deafening chant emitted from the auditorium
was an indication of the friendly rivalry
which was to follow.
The signature event for CCSS Ramas for the
past twenty nine years has been the sister
house ladies football match where Heron and
Oriole would battle against Finch and Amazona.
The football match lived up to its usual high
level of entertainment with much assistance
from a muddy field. Heron and Oriole defeated
Amazona and Finch by a score of two goals
to nil. Bianca Lewis and Frannie Wilkie scored
one goal.

The
Ramas continued with competitions in three
categories, Form 1, Under 16, and 16 and over.
Special mention must be made of the Under
16 and 16 and over football competition where
outstanding performances came from a number
of players who stem from the Valley Soccer
Academy, VSADC and the community of Dennery.
Castries Comprehensive last won an under 16
football title in 2006. It is hopeful the
players involved in club and community footballlead
the way forward to another title in 2011.
A number of finals are expected to be played
during the period of 26th to 30th September
2011 where a winner will be crowned for CCSS
Ramas 2011.
The CCSS Cardinals are intensively undergoing
preparations for the upcoming football, netball
and basketball tournaments organized by the
Department of Youth and Sports. In November
the Sports Program will officially launch
the brand CCSS Cardinals. Students, past students
and members of the public can look forward
to attractive merchandise bearing the logo
CCSS Cardinals and CCSS Athletics.
