Observing
Caribbean Youth Day

On
September 30, 1985, the United Nations General
Assembly conceptualized and spearheaded the
first Caribbean Youth Day (CYD) celebration.
Since then, CYD has been observed annually.
CYD 2011 was celebrated on September 30, 2011
under the theme; “One Caribbean: Seeing
the Future through the eyes of the Youth”.
To date individual Caribbean countries have
organized a range of activities to mark the
occasion and promote their youth. We, St.
Lucia’s Regional Youth Caucus Representatives
to the Commonwealth would like to take this
opportunity to salute the exemplary St. Lucian
youth who continue to lead the way in sports,
academia, technology, culture and other aspects
of St. Lucian life.
They have obviously learnt from their predecessors
and now they are continuing with this trend
of excellence as they see a future of sustainable
human and physical development for St. Lucia.

To
the unattached, yet also very talented youth,
we would also like to take this opportunity
to charge you with the responsibility to be
positive and proactive agents of change, so
that all our energy and intelligence can be
garnered towards the greater good.
To commemorate Caribbean Youth Day this year
we invite all young people to recite the Caribbean
Youth Day pledge was posted the National Youth
Council's Facebook page by Wednesday, September
28, 2011. The pledge should be become our
mantra not only for the day but for beyond.
Let us all as young people of the Caribbean
remain steadfast in our mission in advancing
the Caribbean Region.

Verdant
Deputy Regional Youth Caucus Representative
to the Commonwealth
