Corinth
Secondary: 39 years of Greatness
Rae Anthony

The
Corinth Secondary School celebrated its 39th
anniversary on the 13th of October 2011 on
the school grounds. The school staff and students
started off the celebration with a church
service then to the school afterwards to have
a show. The school’s 39th anniversary
was more than a success and the students definitely
worked hard to make the show what it was.
There was tons of laughter and fun.
Despite
the scorching rays of the sun, the show was
very successful. The host, a student of the
school, was perfect, as he had the full attention
span of the audience with his unbelievably
hilarious jokes. There was poetry, freestyle,
modeling, dance and drama. There was a drama
piece which demonstrated acts of violence
which went on in today’s society. The
students were dressed like “gangsters”
and “bosses” and went on to act
like them in the show, with fake guns and
drugs. The drama piece was excellently put
together and hilarious, but at the end left
the students with the message, that crime
does not pay.
The
principal Willard Andrew commented on the
day’s activities. “Annually we
begin the celebration, with a series of quiz
and educational activities starting from the
Monday of the week and it culminates Thursday,
which is today. We began the day with a church
service and right now we’re having a
show. I would like to call it a talent extravaganza.
The students of the school display their talent
whether it’s through drama, dance, song,
poetry and other aspects of their talent.”

He went on
to express his satisfaction with what was
going on. “I’m very satisfied,
particularly when the school does not have
the facility to put on shows and things of
that aspect. The children worked very hard.
They rehearsed everyday for three weeks. I’m
quite pleased with what is going on.”
Mr. Andrew
further went on to say that theatre art is
his passion, and he wants to see the students
go a long way when it pertains to that. He
says that it is a CXC subject and even the
delinquent students, once introduced to the
subject, come a very long way. He says that
it is a good way to keep the children out
of trouble, and he doesn’t want to give
up on his students, just because they don’t
have the facility, they make do with what
they have, but an auditorium or something
of that sort would be a plus.
The school’s
39th Anniversary was most definitely a success
and the students of the Corinth Secondary
had every right to be proud. Their hard work
definitely paid off.
