Diaries
Of A Dream Queen
Hey
peeps! This week I’m all business. Something
happened on Facebook this week and really,
it wasn’t nice. It didn’t happen
to me, but it happened to someone and I really
think people need to stop acting like this.
You know when we call someone “ugly”
or “fat” or “skinny”
or anything to try to lower their self esteem,
you can really hurt them even if it was never
your intention. There’s a saying “there’s
power in the tongue,” and that is so
true. I will admit that I am guilty of it
sometimes, I am only human. I am not perfect
and like everyone else, I have flaws. I have
decided that I need to make a great effort
to change and if you are guilty, I would like
to encourage you to do the same. You may ask
“why?” You may say “It’s
my mouth; I’ll say what I want.”
But remember what does that say about you?
Always remember that character is power. Always
try to put yourself in that person’s
shoes. (Not literally! “lol.”)
Ask yourself, “How would that person
feel?” There is something called cyber
bullying and a lot of teens especially, need
to research on it, because sometimes, we go
a bit too far. Here is a web definition of
cyber bullying. “Cyber bullying refers
to bullying through information and communication
technologies, mediums such as mobile phone
text messages, emails, phone calls, internet
chat rooms, instant messaging – and
the latest trend – social networking
websites such as MySpace, Facebook and Bebo.
Cyber bullying is a fast growing trend that
experts believe is more harmful than typical
schoolyard bullying. Nearly all of us can
be contacted 24/7 via the internet or our
mobile phones. Victims can be reached anytime
and anyplace. For many children, home is no
longer a refuge from the bullies. “Children
can escape threats and abuse in the classroom,
only to find text messages and emails from
the same tormentors when they arrive home.”

There
is even a movie on cyber bullying which came
out a few months ago. Cyber bullying, verbal
abuse and physical abuse, these things happen
in life every day around the world. You may
not feel the change simply because you think
that it will never happen to you because “I’m
popular.” Or you just believe it won’t.
Sometimes people never change till something
happens to them. People we need to grow up,
we need to realise that there are some things
we simply should not encourage. When you make
fun of your classmate who “stinks”
or the one who is “fat” or “gay”
you can affect them more than you can ever
imagine. Sometimes it drives the victim as
far as committing suicide, or even contemplating
it. How would you feel if you knew that you
were the cause of someone’s death? Yes,
they have no right to do so, but sometimes
we hurt people more than we ever know. If
your classmate does not have a pleasant smell
pull him/her aside and let them know in a
gentle manner, that he or she needs to change
their deodorant. If you think your words will
come out too harshly, speak to a teacher you
can confide in about it. Remember that these
things just may happen to you. I have to run
now! Have a terrific weekend! Much love: Rae
Anthony/ “Missy.”
