Green Smoke Clears and One Stands Tall

The smoke has been cleared and the last man standing was crowned as the Green Synergy Champion 2011. The summer long competition that covered the entire island seemed like the friends it had picked up along the way turned out to show their support for the deejays and the brand Heineken.

Sunday September 11th for the D.Js. making the final cut, all would be decided at the home of the Local finals for Green Synergy, Fon D’or, Dennery. D.Js. would prove their worth in a mix set and battle (clash) segment.

The competition also featured last year’s champion Silver Bullet, the 2009 winner Spy Kid as well as DJ Chubby, Mega B, Meg Boy, DJ Costo, Bony B, Alsnow and the first female to ever enter the competition, DJ Lovely. With Lovely, Twis, Alsnow, Chubby and Silver Bullet going into the final as favourites, things changed after the first round when it was down to four DJ’s; Silver Bullet, DJ Lovely, Spy Kid and Twis.

Leading up to the clash D.Js. had been getting themselves hyped for the competition some by selecting and categorizing the music and others sending BBm blasts out so as to rally their troops. During the prelims, fans were already predicting who would be the winner and many made it clear that the lone female would give the men a run for their money and eventually win.

That was not the case as she was carded to face the 2010 champion Silver Bullet who had enjoyed a clash and competition-free season as a Champion perk. As soon as the bell sounded Lovely’s M.C. waisted little time attacking the defending champion, but when it was Silver Bullet’s turn, no one expected the fury he came with. Even during his ten minute mix segment he went at Lovely with no regard. For a while even Lovely’s supporters went quiet due to Bullet’s barrage of counteractions.

As the bell for the second round sounded we saw four D.Js. making out of the first round but, not unscathed. D.Js. moving onto the second round would be Silver Bullet, DJ Lovely, Spy Kid and Twis.

In the second round would prove to be even more entertaining than the first as Silver Bullet went up against Twis and Lovely against Spy Kid. Each participant traded blows and they all had to be quick with their finger tips and come out with the right song in order to win over the judges and the large contingent who had paid good money to see the eighth annual Green synergy competition which also featured an appearance by popular Jamaican selector DJ Wah Wa, Levi Chin, Webbie D and others and was hosted by MC Pringles.

In the end Silver Bullet was eliminated by Twis and Lovely’s hopes of being the first female winner at Green Synergy was shattered by Spy Kid. The two finalists Spy Kid and Twis were giving five minutes to do battle in the final round to see who would become the new Green Synergy champion. In a close call, 100 points to 102 points, Twis defeated Spy Kid to walk away with the Champion’s trophy, EC$8,000 and Heineken product. His victory also earned him the right to represent Saint Lucia at the regional group final to be held here in Saint Lucia this Saturday September 17, 2011.
