CCSS STARGIRL FOR CXC EXAMINATIONS 2011
By: Michael Peterkin

Steve Brunhorst wrote, “People have a tremendous capacity for outstanding achievement. There are also many extraordinary capacities that allow them to become high achievers.”
In September of 2006, Elra Elcock commenced her education at the distinguished Castries Comprehensive Secondary School. Five years later she graduates as the top performer at Castries Comprehensive receiving ten (10) Grade I passes inclusive of seven (7) distinctions at the C.X.C. Examinations for 2011. This performance also has her ranked as one of the best on the island for 2011.
It all began in Form one, when the short, small-bodied, young lady from Morne Fortune in Castries stamped her authority on academic and co-curricular activities. Year after year she accumulated accolades such as the prominent title of student of the year for 5 consecutive years. These accomplishments were quite simple because Elra can be described as being respectful, disciplined, well mannered and charming. Her philosophy to life as she stated, “I believe that in life nothing is free and that hard work pays off.”
Joan Cusark wrote, “Can they do both? That’s a hugh balance, I think with kids trying to find the “:right-its” everything, you know, It’s social life. It’s academics.” It’s sports.
In 2008 Elra won the title of Miss CCSS, and was well, a regular member of the Amazona House cheerleading squad. She also made time for student council, young leaders and dance. “I also have a social life. I always made time for pleasure such as going out with friends and family, dancing, travelling and bonding with my pets”, explained Elra.

In all of these co-curricular activities, Elra excelled. She was successfully able to do both, balance academic and extra-curricular activities and conquer them all. “Great thanks and appreciation to the administration, staff and teachers who continued to motivate, guide and support me through my five years. I would also like to thank my parents who not only provided the financial support but continued motivation, inspiration and guidance. Most of all I would like to thank God for blessing me with wisdom, knowledge and strength to make it through this stage of my life, but the journey doesn’t stop here”, said Elra.
Presently a student of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, Division of Technical & Management Studies, Elra intends to pursue a career in Finance and Insurance.
It is hopedl Elra’s performance will inspire the present group of Form 5 students at CCSS to keep the flame of this institution well lit for many years to come. The stage is now set for the class of 2012 to even better her performance.
The administration, staff and students of the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School wish to congratulate Elra for her outstanding accomplishment which presents an extremely positive and well deserved image for the distinguished institution.
“The bliss of growth, the glory of action and the splendor of achievement”
