Joyann
Biscette: placing Saint Lucia on the map!

Joyann
Biscette who represented Saint Lucia at Miss
Universe in Brazil which is said to have over
1 billion viewers online, and an unbelievable
number in attendance is back in her home country
and the beauty queen was more than delighted
to give us details of her amazing journey.
Joyann, a popular, local figure is known for
her history in pageantry, her charismatic
ways and intelligent mind.
Before
going to represent us in Brazil and making
Saint Lucians extremely proud, Joyann had
to compete in the local Miss Universe pageant
which was held earlier this year. She competed
against seven other beauties but Joyann charmed
the judges with her delightful personality.
Her confidence stood out and there was a unanimous
decision that she should be the one selected
to represent the Island, many also agreed
that since she has such first-hand knowledge
and experience, she should also be chosen.
Joyann has also represented Saint Lucia at
the Miss World pageant which is an internationally
known pageant.
Joyann
said that though she had a good experience
in Brazil, there were many disappointments
also. When she arrived in the country her
luggage was lost for a certain period and
as a result, she had to leave for a photo
shoot without her own attire, and had to do
with what she had at hand. She said the traffic
was extremely hectic and she has traveled
to New York and the traffic was nothing compared
to that of New York’s. She fell sick
on two occasions and is still recovering from
a cold she got whilst in Brazil. She said
there were times that they would be doing
photo shoots and it was extremely hot, and
later on that day whilst they were in the
same clothes, it got freezing cold. Quite
a few of the girls fell sick and she said
even Miss Angola who was crowned Miss Universe
2011 was suffering from a cold that very same
night.

During
her journey, Joyann made many friends and
she said the girls were so genuine, it was
amazing. She said she had a chance to interact
a bit with basically all of the girls, even
if it was just to take a moment to say hi
and exchange smiles. She also formed friendships
with the likes of Miss Sri Lanka, Miss India
and Miss U.S. Virgin Islands who was her roommate
and whom she said were all incredible individuals.

She
said her personal interview with the judges
at the preliminaries went very well, and they
actually laughed whilst interviewing her.
She said it’s not about winning or losing
at all times but having good representation.
She said the support she received from Saint
Lucians especially was incredible. She said
she was also quite surprised by the number
of people who voted for her online.
“It
is not impossible for us to gain such an achievement,”
Joyann said. She said she also feels that
there is a lot of work to be done and that
the franchise holder needs to work closely
with other Caribbean islands and she will
assist her in whatever way she can. However,
Joyann said if you are not financially stable
and you have no form of support from others
as it relates to finance, it’s going
to be a struggle for that individual.
“I
would like to be around for future Miss Universe
representatives,” she said. She would
love to share her knowledge and help in any
way she possibly can.
Many
Saint Lucians were quite disappointed when
Joyann did not make it to the top 15, but
they have also said that she is an amazing
girl and she has represented Saint Lucia well
on all occasions and she was also the ideal
candidate as she has had a lot of experience.
Joyann Biscette has placed Saint Luca on the
map, by taking part in various pageants worldwide
and locally and has every reason to be proud.
