Youth Fest 2011? That was “the bomb!” For those of you who aren’t aware, Youth Fest is a singing competition which is held annually. The show was hosted by Yo’s very own “Scady Dot P” in Bean Field Vieux Fort on the 18th of December2011. It may seem a bit far, but we are all about the youth and we would definitely go that extra mile for you. Here’s a bit of what went down at Youth Fest 2011.

Youth Fest Highlights:

- A number of giveaways
-Performances by: Mecca, Ricky T, Zionomi, Cookie, Alley Cat, Ambi and Mongsta, Aisha, Claudia Edwards, and a number of other artistes.
-Modeling from various modeling agencies.

We got the opportunity to interview the winner of the show.

Flora Jessy Leonce

19 year old Flora is a graduate of the Saint Joseph’s Convent, and current student of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College. She enjoys reading, singing having fun and public speaking amongst other things. She describes herself as a “social bug”.

Yo! : What inspired you to audition for the competition?

Jessy: “It was actually an accident. I was rummaging through an old Yo! Magazine and I came across the Ad. I was like wow! This is something I would love to participate in! So I called the office. It was already the deadline; I asked whether it was possible to audition. They asked me if I was sure I’m a good singer, I responded with a confident “yes.”

Jessy says, she grew up in the church singing, and she began singing at a very tender age. Even as an infant she said her mother said she would be singing and humming her own tunes. She rehearsed in front her mirror a million times for the big day. “But nothing could have prepared me for the big night.” she said. Jessy said she was actually intimidated by some of the contestants including the 1st runner up in the teen’s category. Despite the fact that she was a bit intimidated, Jessy sang her way to the judge’s heart and was cheered on by the crowd; they enjoyed every bit of her performance.
