Schools’ Drama Festival

The annual Schools’ Drama Festival was held at the Cultural Centre from March 20th- 22nd. It is officially called the Schools Theatre Arts Festival and it is held in March to coincide with World Theatre Day and month. There were many schools performing including The Leon Hess Comprehensive School, Saint Joseph’s Convent, Saint Mary’s College and the Vide Bouitielle Secondary School. The students were very creative when it came to performing their various pieces. The show which was organised by Miss Kentillia Louis is a way of helping the students to not only improve themselves, but to perform professionally, so that they will gain even more experience.

Students were required to do 3 pieces including “Improvisation” which is “the practice of acting, singing, talking and reacting, of making and creating, in the moment and in response to the stimulus of one's immediate environment and inner feelings” Playmaking, which also allows the students to display their creativity. They were given a brief period of time to put on a particular act and they had to deliver without even rehearsing days before; they only had about five minutes to come up with an idea and a piece. The students were very creative especially Saint Mary’s College who ended their play in the most surprising manner and the audience appreciated their great effort. Though there wasn’t a great turnout, the students overall, showed that they had indeed put a lot of effort and hard work into what they did and had fun with it.
