Dear
Helpline,
I have
this boyfriend who I like but I’m not
in love with him. He keeps saying he loves
me and I say it back even when I don't mean
it. I want to break up with him but I don't
know what 2 do. Should I leave him?

If you don’t
love someone, you need to let them know the
truth, but you can’t continue lying
to him. How would you feel if the situation
was reversed? What if you find a guy you actually
love, and he keeps telling you that he loves
you when you say that you love him but what
if, it’s all lies? If you don’t
love your partner, it’s okay to feel
so, it’s not a crime. However, you can’t
keep on telling those lies because if you
continue to be in a relationship like this,
it usually leads to cheating and even if it
doesn’t, when he finds out that everything
was a lie, you will end up hurting him a great
deal. You stated that you like him, but not
love him, if you like him; you need to build
up some courage and let him know the truth.
He will appreciate the fact that you told
him, instead of lying. Yes it will be hurtful,
but after a while, he will get over it and
so will you. When you are telling him that,
be gentle about it; just let him know how
you feel. Don’t tell him that you’re
in love with another guy, that’s one
of the things, you want to avoid, just be
honest yet gentle. If you continue to stay
in this eventually you will end up cheating,
and hurting your partner. Remember nobody
likes a taste of their own medicine.
