Story: Pregnancy test

"Will
you sneak out to meet me?" he asked in
a soft and soothing tone.
"I told you I can't. Ever since the incident
my mother watches me like a hawk. I'm sorry."
I softly whispered in the phone praying no
one heard me... especially my mother.
My best friend had been in a predicament and
I offered to help by volunteering to buy her
the pregnancy test. I was confident I could
do it because I'm not the one pregnant and
there was a new clerk. I entered the store
and went straight for the test. I needed to
get it over and done with but I had to get
the best one. I picked up one and was reading
it to see whether it was accurate and if it
would actually work when Mrs. Kent, my nosy
neighbour came and stood right next to me.
I wanted to die of embarrassment... literally.
I knew that old bat would tell and my mother
would kill me! She looked at me with disbelief.
She nodded politely and gave me a vicious
smile and left. I put the one I had back and
picked up another. The people who passed kept
giving me a nasty look. I wanted to shove
my middle finger up in the air for them but
I knew better.

I
couldn't take it anymore. I just grabbed a
test and rushed out, not minding my business
when I bumped into my worst nightmare- my
mother. She gave me the same look as the other
customers only difference being that she was
blue mad and could beat me to a pulse, right
there in the store. I could barely stand.
I thought my legs would give way underneath
me and I didn't dare look her in the eyes.
My mother went on and on until the clock behind
me caught her eyes. She was going to be late
for work but she still argued and made me
put it back and leave the store. We waited
for the bus together. I prayed she got on
first and she did. Thank God! The minute the
bus was out of sight I ran back and bought
the test and ran all the way to my best friend's
house.
"Here," I said out of breathe. She
took it and entered the bathroom.
"I love you but DON'T EVER EXPECT ME
TO DO THAT AGAIN!!" I screamed as I got
a glass of water and waited patiently for
the test results.
