Morne
Stars Athletics Club had a very successful
outing at the 15th First National Bank 13
and Under Juvenile Championships, enjoying
particular joy in the 8-9 age group, in spite
of having entered at least three 7-year-old
athletes. Especially dominant was Randy Serville,
who ran away with the boys' 60m, 150m and
300m races in that division. Leslie Lesporis
who medaled in the girls' 60m and 150m races,
and Phaige Leean Williams took gold in the
girls' cricket ball throw. Also winning medals
in the 8-9 division were the girls silver
medal 4x75m relay team (Jade “Twinky”
Dubuisson, Agnes “Pinky” Thomas,
Williams and Lesporis) and the third place
mixed 4x150m relay (Williams, Jhaylan Augustine,
Lesporis and Serville).
In
the 10-11 age groups, Morne Stars won two
medals in the girls' cricket ball throw, through
Shaneka Isidore (gold) and Valerie Deterville
(bronze). The 12-13 Shot Put yielded two medals,
silver for Raquel James in the girls' division
and bronze for Kaj Alexander in the boys.
On the track, Jahmiah Daniel was third in
the girls' 200m dash, easily winning her heat
as she had done earlier in the 100m.
After
the meet, the executive of Morne Stars expressed
the club’s gratitude for the participation
and support of several parents as well as
senior athletes including Kevin Lesporis,
Danny Adley, Kenisha Darcie, Richard Lovence
and Johnell Leo. Morne Stars AC now prepares
for the St Lucia National Individual Track
& Field Championships, scheduled for 22
June at the National Stadium. --- T.F.
