CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS AT CCSS
By Kendell “Scady” Eugene

The CCSS Sports Program has once again delivered in its effort to promote Physical Education & Sport through much needed game practice and competition. For this third term of the academic year 2007 – 2008, the Progam has hosted the St. Lucia Stanford 20-20 Professional Cricket Team as well as an Inter House General Knowledge Quiz.

For the last 4 weeks the Program staged an Inter Class Football Competition where classes in the various form levels competed in a knockout football tournament. The winners of the various form levels were Form 1 R 10, Form 2D, Form 3 Technical and Form 4 Technical.

On Tuesday June 17, the Champion of Champions Finals took place at the school grounds and commenced at 12:30 p.m. Present for this final were executive members of the Valley Soccer Football Academy and the media fraternity. The two teams who made the final were Form 1 R 10 and Form 4 Technical and were greeted by the Principal Mr. Jeremy Joseph and Vice Principal Ms. Marva Daniel who also displayed much skill with the football before taking the kickoff.

The game seemed to be a case of David versus the mighty Goliath with the result being the opposite. The physically stronger but not necessarily more skilled Form 4 Technical stamped their authority on the game after a few minutes of determination, resilience and valiance of Form 1 R 10. In the early minutes of the encounter the goal keeper of Form 1 R 10, Aldenard Sateney, who would eventually win the Most Valuable Player of the match award, entertained the spectators with breath taking, skillful and miraculous saves. This however would only last about 8 minutes of the first 15 minute half.

The final ended with a score of 8 goals to nil in favor of Form 4 Technical with Marcus Leon and Dwight Degazon both scoring 2 goals each. In a brief prize giving ceremony, Form 1 R 10 received silver medals with gold medals being awarded to Form 4 Technical as well as a plaque, displaying Champion of Champions. Aldenard Sateney received the most valuable player of the match award. Match referees Denis Emmanuel, Claude James and Nigel Mathurin received pendants for their valuable contribution to the tornament.
