St. Lucian Jumpers Shine on the Field

Jeremiah James, Travis Joseph and Leander Ernest earned success at various collegiate indoor meets this past weekend. Jerry was a double winner at the Don Barrett Air Force Duals at the USA Air Force Academy in Colorado, Travis topped the podium and finished second in his second event at the Tennessee State Invitational, and Leander managed a personal-best run to take third at the Indiana Relays.

Jerry was one of the shining lights for the University of Wyoming, coming up against athletes from the US Air Force Academy, Colorado, Colorado State, and North Colorado. Competing at Cadet Field House, the St Lucian sophomore extended to 14.84m to win men's Triple Jump, a feat he followed up with a clearance of 7.22m in Long Jump, 29cm ahead of teammate John Alderson, who was third in Triple Jump.

For his part, Travis won the men's Triple Jump at the Gentry Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. His mark of 14.76m establishes this as his best season opener, and after a strong offseason in St Lucia, he will surely be heartened ahead of the outdoor season. In the Long Jump, Travis had a less exciting performance, but his best distance of 6.68m still put him in seventh place.

At the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Indiana, Leander managed another personal-best mark in spite of stumbling during the women's 400m dash invitational. After recovering from being tripped, she still ran 55.10 seconds, shaving .45 off her previous personal best mark. The reigning Missouri Valley Track Athlete of the Week also led her Missouri State team to a 3:42.20 win in the mile relay.

Elsewhere, Maryland-Eastern Shore sophomore Danai Lendor ran 57.99 in the women's 400. Danai was competing at the Penn State National Invitational, in the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track at University Park, Pennsylvania.
