In
just her first national competition, Delcia
Hubert was the toast of the town at the 1st
National Bank 13 & Under Juvenile Track
and Field Championships, last Sunday at the
George Odlum Stadium.
Competing for Morne Stars Athletics club,
Delcia made her mother, Orelia Hubert, and
her entire community of Boguis proud. After
capturing gold medals in the cricket ball
throw and 60m dash, the diminutive nine-year-old,
less than a weeke removed from her birthday,
capped her Most Outstanding Athlete performance
by capturing a third gold medal in the 150m
dash. Morne Stars took a total of four gold
medals, with Valerie Deterville winning the
Long Jump in the 10-11 girls' division. Deterville
also was third in the cricket ball throw in
her age group, one of four bronze medalls
for Morne Stars, who got medals from Vinia
Inglis, Randy Serville and Shanyka Isidore.
The meet saw a number of schools and clubs
either participating for the forst time or
returning to national competition after lengthy
absences. Alongside the like of Morne Stars,
Baron's Drive, Rockets, Abilene Wilcats and
Survivors, the athletics fraternity was able
to welcome Anse La Raye Primary, Canaries
Primary and Laborie Primary, as well as Pace
Setters, who enjoyed a great deal of success
on the day. - Terry Corwin Adrian Finisterre
