Delcia Shines At Juvenile Games

In just her first national competition, Delcia Hubert was the toast of the town at the 1st National Bank 13 & Under Juvenile Track and Field Championships, last Sunday at the George Odlum Stadium.

Competing for Morne Stars Athletics club, Delcia made her mother, Orelia Hubert, and her entire community of Boguis proud. After capturing gold medals in the cricket ball throw and 60m dash, the diminutive nine-year-old, less than a weeke removed from her birthday, capped her Most Outstanding Athlete performance by capturing a third gold medal in the 150m dash. Morne Stars took a total of four gold medals, with Valerie Deterville winning the Long Jump in the 10-11 girls' division. Deterville also was third in the cricket ball throw in her age group, one of four bronze medalls for Morne Stars, who got medals from Vinia Inglis, Randy Serville and Shanyka Isidore.

The meet saw a number of schools and clubs either participating for the forst time or returning to national competition after lengthy absences. Alongside the like of Morne Stars, Baron's Drive, Rockets, Abilene Wilcats and Survivors, the athletics fraternity was able to welcome Anse La Raye Primary, Canaries Primary and Laborie Primary, as well as Pace Setters, who enjoyed a great deal of success on the day. - Terry Corwin Adrian Finisterre
