The
FGCU swimming and diving team swept Florida
Atlantic and Tampa in a tri-meet Friday evening,
picking up convincing victories over both
schools. The Eagles defeated FAU 180-112 and
knocked off Tampa 194-92. The Blue and Green
started strong, placing first and second in
the first event, the 200 medley relay. The
second-placed team featured St Lucia's Dani
Beaubrun, a freshman at FGCU. FGCU dominated
the Owls and the Spartans for the rest of
the meet. Florida Atlantic’s Eszter
Bucz was the only female swimmer not wearing
an FGCU suit that won an event. She took the
100 breast, in which Beabrun swam 1:06.66
for third place.
Rajon
Rondo says he has agreed to a five-year contract
extension with the Celtics, keeping the star
point guard from entering the market as a
restricted free agent after the season. The
extension is worth $55 million, FOXSports.com's
Jeff Goodman has confirmed. The deal has yet
to be signed but Rondo said Monday that was
just a "formality." "That's
the biggest thing for me, take care of my
family," Rondo said. "I'm very excited."
Talks between Rondo's agent Bill Duffy and
the Celtics became more focused last week,
just before the team's opener. "I think
the time we started to negotiate it was time
for tip-off of the regular season in Cleveland,"
Rondo said.
St
Lucia-born forward Kiva Herman had 18 points
and fellow first-year pro Megan Skouby led
the team with 21, but Canti Riva Basket still
fell to their second loss in the Switzerland
Professional League, 80-69 to BCF Elfic Fribourg.
As a team, Canti shot just 36% from the floor
and 31% from behind the arc. Skouby was lights
out from three-point range, making 5 of 7,
but just 2 of 12 inside the circle. Herman,
on the other hand, made 7 of 17 from the field.
Cleveland
Cavaliers guard Delonte West was indicted
Tuesday on additional weapons and traffic
charges stemming from his Sept. 17 arrest
for speeding on a motorcycle and carrying
multiple weapons. The eight-count indictment
sheds no new light on why West, 26, was riding
a motorcycle on the Capital Beltway in Prince
George's County, Md., at 10 p.m. with two
loaded handguns and a loaded shotgun. Prosecutors
on Wednesday added an 8 1/2-inch Bowie knife
to the list of concealed weapons West was
carrying. West was indicted on two counts
of carrying a dangerous weapon, two counts
of carrying a handgun, two counts of transporting
a handgun, and one count each of reckless
driving and negligent driving. The charges
are all misdemeanors. Each of the weapons
counts carries a penalty of up to three years
in prison.
