The
New York Knicks passed on a chance to sign
Allen Iverson last summer. A few months and
only one victory later, they have to decide
if he's worth reconsidering.
Iverson is on the market again after the Memphis
Grizzlies waived him Tuesday night. And while
the Knicks weren't interested in the offseason,
they won't rule the former scoring champion
out yet. D'Antoni and team president Donnie
Walsh both praised Iverson's abilities, but
said the organization still had to discuss
whether it's worth bringing him to a 1-9 team
that is off to the worst 10-game start in
franchise history.
Arsenal
striker Eduardo has expressed his delight
after putting pen to paper on a new "long-term"
contract at the Emirates Stadium. The 26-year-old,
who joined the Gunners from Dinamo Zagreb
in 2007, has been rewarded for his form since
recovering from a badly broken leg. The Croatia
international was sidelined for almost a year
after suffering in the injury in February
2008. He has now scored 18 goals in 48 first-team
appearances for Arsene Wenger's team. Arsenal
have not confirmed the length of the deal
but are pleased to have further secured the
player's services.
Chris
Gayle, the West Indies captain, has flown
home to Jamaica to be with his seriously ill
mother, leaving him in doubt for next week's
first Test. Gayle departed Allan Border Field
before the start of the tour game against
Queensland to begin the journey back to visit
her in hospital in Kingston. Team-mate Ramnaresh
Sarwan said it was disappointing to lose Gayle
and the squad would have to wait to learn
whether he will be able to turn out at the
Gabba.
Top-ranked
Roger Federer will play U.S. Open champion
Juan Martin del Potro and Andy Murray in the
round-robin phase of the ATP World Tour Finals.
After Wednesday's draw, Federer also faces
Fernando Verdasco in Group A. The Swiss star
lost to Del Potro in the U.S. Open final.
"Obviously, I look forward to playing
Roger," Murray said. "I've played
Juan a few times on the tour recently and
also had a close match recently with Verdasco
indoors in Valencia.
