Chad
joins the Bearcats
Following
closely on the heels of Lenyn Leonce, another
member of the Morne Stars Athletics Club is
taking up studies in the United States. Just
shy of his 20th birthday, former National
Champion and National Junior Champion, Chad
Phillip is starting school at McKendree University
in Illinois on a partial athletic scholarship,
studying towards a degree in Economics and
Finance.
A
former YO! Magazine cover boy, Chad will be
joining the Bearcats' sprint programme, but
at 6'1" and 180 lbs, he is a well-rounded
athlete - a talented 100m runner, multiple
Long Jump and Javelin Throw medallist, and
a former goalkeeper for the junior national
football team. From an athletic family, he
is the second of his siblings to earn an athletic
scholarship, following his sister, volleyballer
Lottie Phillip.
From
the community of Jacmel and a product of Castries
Comprehensive Secondary School and Sir Arthur
Lewis Community College, Chad is looking forward
to this new stage in his life. "I hope
my grades and times go in opposite directions,
because I want to keep running faster and
getting higher marks in class as the year
continues," he remarked. "I am ready
for just about anything right now."
Along
with Leonce and Jeremiah James (both Wyoming)
Morne Stars currently studying and competing
in the United States include Travis Joseph
(Grambling), Kenson Nicholas (Bethune Cookman),
Leander Ernest (Missouri State), Burke Leonce
(Troy) and Mandela Clifford MidAmerica Nazarene).
