Once
she leaves the French Open, Venus Williams
will be done wearing the black lace dress
that's drawn so much attention. Williams says
Friday the corsetlike outfit she designed
will be be "retired'' after the tournament.
She adds: "As great as the design is,
I really want the focus to be on the tennis.''
The American has advanced to the fourth round
at Roland Garros with three straight-set victories.
She has worn the dress in each one, drawing
as many questions about her fashion statement
as her strokes.
Former
NBA All-Star Antoine Walker has filed for
bankruptcy. In Chapter 7 documents filed in
U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District
of Florida last week, Walker reported having
$4.3 million in assets and $12.7 million in
liabilities.
Walker's 2006 NBA championship ring, valued
at $6,000, is included in a list of assets.
It's not the first time Walker has faced financial
trouble. In November 2009, he agreed to pay
more than $900,000 to settle bad check charges
at three Las Vegas casinos and avoid trial
on felony criminal charges.Walker was a three-time
all-star with the Boston Celtics. He won the
2006 championship with the Miami Heat. Walker's
attorney did not immediately return a message
seeking comment.
Golf
legend Jack Nicklaus believes it will be a
tall order for Tiger Woods to win five majors
in as many years and overtake him in the all-time
list, Sky Sports reported late Tuesday. The
70-year-old won 18 majors in his illustrious
career but Woods appeared to be well on the
way to passing that mark when he won a 14th
title at the U.S Open in 2008. However, a
serious knee injury led to a major-less 2009
and following his recent travails off the
course, Woods is in danger of repeating the
feat this year as well. Nicklaus says if the
world number one fails to win at Pebble Beach
or St Andrews — the scene of the U.S.
Open and British Open Championship respectively
— he may lose all chance of catching
the 70-year-old's total of major victories.
Ben
Roethlisberger was cleared by the NFL on Thursday
to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers beginning
next week, although no decision has been made
on the length of his suspension. The quarterback
was suspended without pay for six games last
month by commissioner Roger Goodell after
a 20-year-old college student accused him
of sexual assault in Milledgeville, Ga. No
charges were filed. Roethlisberger underwent
a behavioral evaluation as part of the suspension,
which could be reduced to four games by Goodell,
who will review the case again before the
regular season. Um how long did it take Vick?
