Tiger Woods
said tests Wednesday showed an inflamed neck
joint that causes pain and makes it hard to
turn his head, an injury that will require
little more than medicine, massages and rest.
Woods had an MRI that revealed inflammation
in a facet joint of his neck. He said on his
website that when facet joints are inflamed,
it causes pain in the area along with headaches
and difficulty rotating the head. He withdrew
from the final round of The Players Championship
on Sunday after a week in which he was seen
stretching and rolling his neck.
Chelsea
captain John Terry returned to training on
Thursday, easing fears about any lasting damage
to his right foot ahead of the FA Cup final.
Scans showed that Terry did not break his
foot in training on Wednesday and the center
back is now "fit to play without any
problems" against Portsmouth in Saturday's
final, according to Chelsea manager Carlo
Ancelotti.
Police regained
control of the downtown core early Thursday
after firing tear gas at hundreds of bottle-tossing
youths who looted businesses following the
Montreal Canadiens' Game 7 victory in Pittsburgh.
The vandalism occurred after most of the tens
of thousands of jubilant hockey fans left
the area. Police say 41 people have been arrested
in the mayhem.
South
Africa were woefully short of runs and ideas
at the ICC World Twenty20, but they aren't
lacking for compatriots offering harsh criticism,
explanations for what went wrong, and remedies
for the future. The Proteas crashed out of
the tournament after losing three of their
five matches. That continues a trend of South
Africa entering ICC tournaments among the
favourites, only to fail to live up to their
billing. South Africa's only success in ICC
events was achieved at the Wills International
Cup, also known as the ICC Knockout, in Dhaka
in 1998. They have since faltered in two World
Cup semi-finals and a quarter-final, three
Champions Trophy (or ICC Knockout) semi-finals,
and one World Twenty20 semi-final. So I guess
it is not just the Windies suffering a slump
in cricket huh?
