Pride
Pride
is a feeling; a feeling of satisfaction, a
feeling of supremacy, a sense of value that
a person experiences when they have achieved
something in life.
Do you take pride in yourself? How do you
show it every day? Yes, we celebrate when
we get a promotion at work, spend another
year with our loved one or finish a college
degree but these only occur once in a while.
You do things each day you should be proud
of and celebrate. They may not be milestones,
but they add up to who you are.
There are many great ways to build pride in
yourself and celebrate who you are as an individual,
as your own person. The first step is being
grateful for all you have. It is a very healthy
and positive way to keep you motivated. Take
time out of each day to think about five things
you are grateful for. This is a time for you
to reflect on the day in a positive light.
I know sometimes it is difficult for you to
think of things you are grateful for. If you
are unable to think of anything to be grateful
for, you should be grateful you survived the
day; be grateful you still have a job; be
grateful you didn't kill your boss; be grateful
that tomorrow you get to start a new day.
With practice you will find more and more
ways to be grateful and will always end your
day not dwelling on missed opportunities or
regret but on all you have. You will quickly
notice how much you do in a day and how much
of a difference you make.
We have all heard how important it is to set
goals. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Well,
it is just as important to achieve them. What
is the use of setting them if you are not
committed to completing them?
Look at your current goals. Make sure they
are realistic and achievable and are goals
you are truly committed to. Then write them
down so you see them every day and make them
into reality. You will not believe how good
you will feel when you can tick one off your
list. It's just like when you graduated from
secondary school; you never thought you would
ever finish those long five years, but when
you did, it felt great! What a relief?
There should also be time to celebrate your
life. In the success of life, we forget to
take time to really enjoy what we have done.
Building on our successes helps to keep us
motivated. Take the time when setting a goal
to plan how you will celebrate when you achieve
it. It doesn't have to be a huge two-week
vacation as a reward. Maybe you can go to
lunch with a friend to celebrate; maybe you
can take yourself to the beach, just to relax,
or maybe you get to buy a DVD of your favorite
movie. The key is not to allow any of your
achievements to go without being celebrated,
because they are all meaningful.
Now go out and celebrate Pride and don't be
afraid to go out there and wave your rainbow
flag. You're not only doing it for PRIDE’S
sake but in celebration of you being just
yourself!
